We are excited to announce the official launch of DEDALUS – a 14-month research excellence project exploring the intersection of classical database systems and quantum computing, funded under Greece 2.0 & NextGenerationEU.

DEDALUS is built on a single thesis: “the next generation of data management systems will not be purely classical, nor purely quantum – but hybrid“. The project sets out to demonstrate that quantum computing can move from theoretical promise into practical data management.

What we are building

Three open-source research lines, each tackling a fundamental data management challenge:

  • Hybrid Query Optimisation: formulating join ordering as a QUBO problem, dispatched to quantum annealers or hybrid solvers, producing executable plans on a live PostgreSQL instance
  • Quantum-Aware Indexing: investigating whether quantum circuits themselves can act as deterministic, reusable index structures over knowledge graphs
  • Quantum-Enhanced Schema Discovery: applying QUBO formulations of clustering problems to produce cleaner, more interpretable schema summaries for property graphs

The consortium

DEDALUS is a collaboration between the University of Crete (Department of Computer Science) as project coordinator, and Quantum Neural Technologies S.A. (Athens) as industrial partner.
